Just about ready to hit it again

Just a few more days and I will begin running again. Ok, I will say it now. I really screwed my knee in that last race. The downhills and 205 lbs of body did a number on it.

However, I am coming back with a vengeance. I am stronger, healthier and more fit than ever. My cardio fitness is awesome. The shortest workout I have done in the past month has been 2 hours. The only thing left to do between now and April 2 is a ton of miles and conditioning. I can't wait!

Knee Repair

Knee repair continued...
Today I did 25 miles on the bike, swam 1 900 meters or 1.18 miles and for a warm down I did 20 minutes of core work.

I hate not being able to run. I just keep telling myself that this rehab and strengthening will only make me stronger for April's big race. The other benefit to these different forms of endurance training is that I am able to tap into different energy cycles. This should play to my benefit once I resume running.

BTW... Oceans 12 is hot. Great movie.

What's Up...

I am dealing with a slight right knee problem. It is a mild case of Patellar Tendinitis. I have been receiving acupuncture treatments 3 time a week and 2 massages a week for the past 2 weeks. I have a rigorous supplement routine in place to speed the recovery.

Now don't worry... I am not sitting around eating Oreos. I am working out like a mad man. I have been doing 1.5-2 hours on the elliptical machine 3-4 times a week at the gym. Tomorrow, I have a 3 hour elliptical workout planned.

I will keep all of you posted on my recovery.

Not an ultra but I bet is was one damn scary race

Question: Do guns pointed at you make you run faster... let's see. It is not an ultramarathon but it deserves a mention.

U.S. forces run marathon in Taliban stronghold

Emotional race timed to coincide with Honolulu Marathon

The Associated Press

TIRIN KOT, Afghanistan - A U.S. soldier burst into tears as he won Afghanistan’s first marathon Sunday. But he wasn’t crying for joy.

Lt. Mike Baskin said he was thinking about four comrades killed in recent fighting. Baskin, of Santiago, Calif., battled the country’s thin mountain air for more than three hours before crossing the finish line.

“I just thought about those four guys when I crossed, that they won’t be going home with us, and it kind of hit me,” he told an Associated Press reporter at the race.

Some 200 soldiers and civilians working for the U.S. military competed in the 26.2-mile race at Firebase Ripley, a remote military camp near Tirin Kot in central Uruzgan province.

The Afghan National Olympic Committee said the race was the first marathon in the history of this war-ravaged country.

The Recovery ... It Sucks!

This part of racing is the toughest. The recovery. You feel like shit. Look like shit and can't do shit. I feel like sitting still... yet that hurts... if I move I hurt. This usually lasts for 2-3 days and then it's all good.

My blisters are now taken care of, I think I can handle a massage tomorrow. I might be able to walk normal by Thursday.

By the way... I have plans to run 27 miles with some dudes on Sunday.

Go to go sit still and hurt... later.

This AM I took my last run before the race. It was an easy 6 miles. It was a cold 34 degrees out. It could be as low as 20 degrees when the race starts Saturday.
